A Year 13 student has been working on a specially made bird box for the school allotment since November 2014.

Student Warwick created the impressive design, made from plywood and dowel, after building a prototype based on the requirements of the allotment team. He started work in November, spending a few hours each week, and finished in early January.

The process of building the box was timely and required a lot of thought, detail and patience. Warwick said: “I enjoyed creating the bird box and working alongside staff from the Innovation cluster. I’ve never made anything like this before and I’m surprised and pleased with the result.”

Headteacher Mr Waller will join Warwick in putting the bird box up in the allotment in the next few weeks. Warwick and the staff involved hope that the bird box will be used as a nest and that it will also encourage other students to become more interested in nature.

Mrs Barton, who has been working on the project with Warwick, said: “I’m so impressed with the effort that Warwick has put into this project. He has never made anything like this before and showed a real natural skill and ability.

“It is wonderful that we have been able to create something that can be enjoyed by other students and staff for a long time to come.”
