A group of business enthusiasts, who have created their own soft drink brand, took the product to Year 8 Parents’ Evening to give visitors the chance to sample the drink in return for a 20p donation to the Friends of Carr Hill.

The drink, called Waterfall, was created from scratch by a team of students as part of The Real Business Challenge run by Coca-Cola Enterprises. The pupils, who are in Year 8, 9 and 10, worked on everything from the packaging, to the price point to the ingredients and impressed the school’s Senior Leadership Team who were invited to sample the product last term.

Following the positive feedback the savvy, business-minded students decided to use the product to raise money for the school charity the Friends of Carr Hill. The team of five unveiled the product at Year 8 Parents’ Evening and received a great response from parents, students and staff.

Year 10 student Mollie, who had the role of Creative Director throughout the process, said: “People really like the drink. It has apple, raspberry, orange and mango in it so the colour is a little unusual but once people try it they really like it.”

Fellow Year 10 student Courtney took on the role of Product Development Manager. She said: “We have come up with the four fruit challenge to encourage people to try the drink. It’s a great way to get people’s attention and is helping us to sell more products.”

Mollie and Courtney were joined by fellow students Luke, who is the Chief Executive, Jack, the Finance Director, and Andrew, the Commercial Investment Manager. All the students volunteered their free time to raise money for charity and promote the drink. The students hope to attend more school events throughout the year and help to raise more money.

Mollie said: “It’s nice to hear positive feedback about the drink and it has made us think about expanding the brand. We might look into creating some different flavours just like Lucozade and other brands. We all had so much fun making the first product so there may be more to come.”
