It’s that time of year again for the Expression Cluster, the Annual Gym and Dance Display. The display will take place in February and Dance Academy members are already working very hard rehearsing for the event.

The Dance Academy’s training sessions start with a warm up before members get into their dance routines and go over their performances until everyone gets it right. The girls help one another out, making sure they all get everything right. The one thing that is sensational about the Dance Academy is that their performances are always on point.

The Dance Academy will perform a number of routines during the Gym and Dance Display. One of the performances will be to ‘With You,’ from the musical, ‘Ghost,’ which they performed at the Wyre and Fylde Dance Festival. The piece is called ‘Taken’ and it’s a moving and emotional dance routine which is brilliant from start to finish. Another dance routine is to ‘Chandelier’ by Sia. This routine was choreographed by Dance Academy Captain, Amy. The routine will be performed alongside the sixth form dancers. It looks mesmerizing in rehearsals.

The Dance Academy members will also perform to other hit songs such as, ‘Uptown Funk,’ by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars and ‘All About That Bass’ by Meghan Trainor. The Dance Academy members are also performing a very special dance to, ‘He Lives in You,’ which is from the critically acclaimed film and musical, ‘The Lion King’. The performance is a tribute to the South Africa Sports’ Tour which took place in summer 2014.

Year 11 student, and Dance Academy member, Megan said: “I’m very excited for the Gym and Dance Display because I’m not only involved in the Dance Academy performances, I’m also going to perform my own street dance piece.

“The Dance Academy work hard as a team and the final performances are going to be great! We’ve been working non-stop since September and I hope it pays off on the night!”

Dance Academy Director and Dance Teacher Miss O’Connor said: “The Gym and Dance Display takes place over two nights this year due to popular demand. Students get involved for a number of reasons, some do it to help complete class or exam work whilst others do it as an extra-curricular activity. The display is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the amazing talent we have at Carr Hill.

“I’m very happy with the progress the Dance Academy has made so far but as with any show there is a lot to do right up until the last minute.  We have more rehearsals and need to complete marketing material and costumes.”

The Gym and Dance Display will take place on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th February. Ticket information will be released soon.
