This week students from Carr Hill High School’s six colleges took part in the school’s first College Varsity Dodgeball League.

Each day a different year group represented their college and went head to head against the other colleges. The point of the league is to introduce many students to a new sport and encourage friendly inter-college competition.

The league took place after school each day and involved teams of 16 playing each other in 4 minute long games. The aim of the game is to hit members of the opposing team with a soft ball. Once a player has been hit they are out of the game. The team with the most players at the end of the game wins.

PE Teacher Mr Grady was part of the team who organised the league. He said: “There is no doubt that the students have enjoyed playing in the league. The competition encourages students to take pride in their college, support each other and work as a team.

“Dodgeball is a sport which is covered in PE classes however for many of our students it is the first time they have played the sport in a tournament environment. We have been pleased with the positive and enthusiastic response from pupils and hope to run the competition again soon.”

Zac, who represented his college Ceres during the tournament, said: “Dodgeball is the first sport I played and I loved it. I love everything about it; catching, throwing, dodging, it’s all so much fun.”

Teammate Jack said: “I like the competitive element of the league. Lots of people volunteered to represent Ceres and I think that is why we had such a strong team.”

Juno college player Harley also enjoyed the league. He said: “I got to play on a team with all my friends and represent my college. I played dodgeball for the first time in PE and I’m glad I got to play it again as it is a fun sport.”
