Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre started 2015 with a new Headteacher. Andrew Waller, who was appointed as the school’s Headteacher in summer 2014, brings 23 years of experience to the role and plans to ‘build on the success of this thriving school.’

Having previously held the position of Deputy Headteacher in a similar school in Middleton, Mr Waller impressed the school’s Governors and the Senior Leadership Team who all felt he could bring a wealth of insight to the role and continue to positively shape the school’s already promising future.

Starting his career in 1991 as an RE and History teacher at a school in Bolton, Mr Waller has built up expertise in a range of areas. Having worked in other 11-18 schools of similar sizes Mr Waller has a solid understanding of the way in which schools with sixth forms operate and can bring his array of experience to the role.

Reputation, values and quality of learning were all key drivers in Mr Waller’s decision to apply for the school’s Headship role. Mr Waller said: “Having worked at schools across the region for over two decades, I have always been aware of Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre. The school has a solid reputation for delivering a high standard of learning both in and outside of the classroom and is well respected within its local community. During my first visit to the school it quickly became obvious that this reputation was well founded and deserved.

“I take up this role with a clear vision, to continue to build on the success that Carr Hill has seen over the last few years. I believe that the students are at the heart of this success. I want Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre pupils to be recognised by themselves and others as outstanding young people who, by the end of their time at the school, are well equipped to go out into society and play a positive role.”

Chair of Governors Mr Ian Marquis said: “We are delighted to welcome Mr Waller to Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre. I’m pleased to say that Mr Waller is keen to continue to make positive changes, like those we have seen in recent years, and is dedicated to improving the school further. It is an exciting start to 2015 for Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre and I’m keen to begin working alongside Mr Waller next year.”

Mr Waller added: “I am incredibly committed to continuing to build on the success of this thriving school.”
