Students from Carr Hill High School have donated an impressive 177.5kgs of food to the Fylde Foodbank. Volunteers at the Trussell Trust food bank based in Kirkham were delighted to receive the much needed donation which equates to 425 meals for local people.

Students and staff personally dropped off the donation, taking around 20 large boxes that included items such as tinned goods, sauces, puddings and pasta. Students from the school’s Ceres and Minerva colleges have been collecting donations for the last few weeks, giving whatever they can to help others.

The Foodbank’s Coordinator Linda Nulty said: “It is fantastic that young people are recognising that there is a need for Foodbanks and that they are able to help people in their local area. This donation is obviously the result of a magnificent effort on the part of Carr Hill students and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

After the students dropped off the school’s donation they were given a tour of the Foodbank. The students helped to weigh food, learnt about how donations were stored and made up a number of food parcels.

Teacher Mrs Jo Beesley was one of the teachers to accompany the students to the Foodbank. She said: “Our pupils have really tried hard to donate as much food as possible. We can’t believe that we have been able to collect so much in a few weeks and are delighted to find out that we will be helping so many people.”

Linda said: “We were so pleased to receive the magnificent quantity of food which the school has collected and for the opportunity to meet some of the students.”
