Report by Sporting Elite Media Officer Jack.

On December 10th 2014 Carr Hill’s Rugby Academy played against Blackburn team, QEGS (Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School). The Carr Hill team consisted of, Max, Jacob, Jordan, Matt B, Tom, Rhys, Connor, Robertas, Aidan, Sam, Matt E, Kurtis, Josh, James and Team Captain, Will. The subtitute was Jordan.

Right from the off the Carr Hill players were straight into the game giving the opponents a challenge. The game was fast paced but the players kept up. Sam completed some brilliant take downs throughout the first half, whilst Will and Connor showed excellent team work and impressive passes. Carr Hill players proved that they could take on anything, no matter the weather conditions, as they completed great scrums and rucks.

During the first half the weather took a turn for the worse but the players pulled through it with their sure determination. Connor came close to scoring the first try but just missed out. Minutes after Will scored the first try, making the score 5 to 0. Sam stepped up for the conversion but didn’t score however the team’s morale remained positive.

After Will had scored the first try the players worked together to ensure the opposing team didn’t score. Players such as Kurtis and Matt B worked well together keeping the other team from scoring. Matt E was one of the key players at this point putting into practice the skills he had learnt during training sessions. Carr Hill were stopped by a ruck with Max retrieving the ball and running up the pitch. Max got passed all the other players with his strength and speed to score the second try of the game. This made the score 10 to 0 at the end of the first half.

When the second half began Carr Hill once again got into the game without hesitation. Just like the beginning of the first half Sam completed some brilliant tackles, taking down the opposing team. Carr Hill produced brilliant line outs, which were completed by key players Jacob and Connor. Throughout this half Will lead the players with his fast paced skills and his team work. His younger brother, Tom, was a brilliant addition to the team during this half and just like Will he was fast on his feet.

Neither team scored at the beginning of the half but this was mainly due to the terrible weather conditions. Mr Penney made a switch between James and Jordan after a few minutes. James had played brilliantly in the game demonstrating speed and passing skills but now it was time for Jordan. As soon as Jordan came on to the pitch he proved he was a great addition to the team, dodging opposing players with ease.

Jordan was brilliant at handling and passing the ball in the second half, getting the ball down the pitch as fast as possible. Once again, Connor almost scored but was taken down. Soon after Max scored for the second time, making the score 15-0. Later on in the half both Will and Max scored another try each, making the score 25-0. Matt E and Robertos scored the conversions which made the final score 29-0.

Well done to Carr Hill’s Rugby Academy for another win! Keep up the good work. Man of the Match goes to Max, well done!

Kurtis, who was a key player in the game, said: “I think the game was a success even though the weather and pitch were against us! I thought Max was brilliant at scoring the trys, whilst Will and Matt E showed great running techniques.

“To do better in future games I would say we need to pass down the line more instead of forwards and then charge down the middle. I think that would make the team perform better as a whole.”

The coach, Mr Penney said: “In our training sessions we have been working on tighter passes which we demonstrated in the game. I’m pleased with today’s result.”
