Carr Hill’s Dance Academy has been busy getting prepared for a major festival, the Wyre and Fylde Dance Festival, and members are currently working hard in rehearsals.

On the 25th November 2014, 19 members of the Dance Academy will be a part of the festival at Blackpool’s Opera House. For young and aspiring dancers this is the perfect platform as it’s the biggest stage in Europe. This will be the sixth year that the school has been involved in the festival. The festival is in aid of Brian House School Hospice and Donna’s Dream House. The schools involved will dance in the form of exhibitions to the theme grief.

In rehearsals for the festival the academy members exercise contemporary techniques to jazz music. The Dance Academy has members who are trained in a variety of different ways such as tap and ballroom so this gives the academy plenty of diversity. Dance Academy Director and Dance teacher Miss O’Connor aims to improve performances and techniques during each rehearsal.

Following the Wyre and Fylde Dance Festival Dance Academy members will be busy again this time practising for the annual Gym and Dance Display which takes place in March. One of the performances that will be featured in the show uses the song Chandelier by Sia. Captain of the Dance Academy and Year 13 student Amy choreographed the dance and she will perform it alongside other Dance Academy members from the Sixth Form. Miss O’Connor is very impressed with the dance and how students have worked on it on their own. She also praised the dancers for their commitment.

When asked who she felt has most improved so far this year Miss O’Connor said: “I think Hannah has made the most progress this year because she trained to be a gymnastic and the transition into a dancer can be difficult for some but Hannah rose to the challenge!”

Good luck to Carr Hill’s Dance Academy in the Wyre and Fylde Dance Festival this month!
