Year 7 students Benjamin and Joshua have brought the rainforest to life as part of a geography homework project.

The two students excelled at the project which gave pupils the opportunity to demonstrate the different layers of the rainforest through any medium they wanted. The boys decided to create 3D models of the rainforest much to the delight of their teachers Miss Butterworth and Miss Hopkins. Both teachers were so impressed with the boys’ efforts that they were awarded with a special certificate as well as five merits each.

Benjamin said: “I was really interested in the project as it was something different and fun as it was up to us how we showed the rainforest layers.”

Students were encouraged to complete the project in any way they thought would best represent the layers of the rainforest whether that be through a story or poem, a series of drawings or, like Benjamin and Joshua, a 3D model.

Joshua, who says Geography is his favourite subject, said: “I loved doing the project as you could create anything that you wanted. It gave you the opportunity to use the creative part of your mind.”

Both the boys got help from family to gather the items needed for their designs which included cardboard, tissue paper and paint. The designs took a few hours each to complete and both boys intend to display them at home now they have been marked.

Geography Teacher Miss Buttterworth said: “The boys have excelled themselves. Their work is beyond what myself or Miss Hopkins expected, the level of effort they have gone to is fantastic and we can see how much thought went into each design.

“We believe that it is important to recognise hard work amongst our students. When students go the extra mile we want to reward their efforts and celebrate their achievements which is why we have presented both students with a special recognition certificate.”
