STUDENTS celebrated a year of sporting success at the annual Sportsman’s Dinner last week.

Held at Ribby Hall, all students who have been involved with sport over the academic year were invited to the celebrations which included a meal, an awards ceremony, a guest speaker and a disco!

Opening the evening, ex Derby County and Preston North End Footballer, Youl Mawene spoke about his career playing professional Football at the highest level and inspiring many youngsters to work hard and be dedicated in sport.

Youl, who now works for Fleetwood Town FC as a fitness coach, then went on to present awards to students who had exceeded in Sports at Carr Hill. Awards were given for success in Badminton, Cricket, Cheerleading, Dance, Handball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Football, Netball, Rugby, Rounders and for Special Recognition to sport outside of school.

The host of the evening, Mr Haydock ensured that the night ran smoothly and after the awards were presented students were invited to get food and take part in the raffle to win a variety of sportswear and accessories.

PE Teacher, Miss Coulthard, organised the successful event.

She said: “At Carr Hill we believe that it is important that the talents and successes of our students are celebrated. The Annual Sportsman’s Dinner is an event that our students look forward to.

Our students are motivated and talented individuals who deserve to be acknowledged for their hard work in sports throughout the year, inside and outside of school. Here’s to another year of great sporting success!”

After all the formalities were over, the DJ set up on the stage for the evening, getting all of the students onto the dance floor celebrating their achievements in style.
