BONJOUR, merci and au revoir were just some of the French words being practised when a group of students went on a trip to France over half term.

90 students and nine members of staff crossed the English Channel for a four day trip to the French capitol, Paris, visiting famous historical sites and soaking up the French culture. Having a jam packed itinerary the students went on a whistle stop tour of the city.

Setting off early on their first day, the group made their first visit to the church of Sacre Coeur and got to have a look around the Montmartre district of Paris found on a hill in the north. Making their way back into the centre, the students got to travel down the Seine on a river cruise finishing up at the famous Eiffel Tower.

At the Eiffel Tower students had the opportunity to take in the outstanding views of Paris from the viewing platform on the Eiffel Tower and were raced up the stairs to the platform by the staff, Mrs Beckett beating them all!

Organised by Mrs Beckett, the trip offered students the chance to learn outside of the classroom and for students studying History or French it was highly beneficial. A trip to the Palace of Versailles gave students an insight into French history and culture and an afternoon spent shopping on the world famous Champs Elysees ensured that the students got to practise their French.

Year 11 student Sofia Riera, thoroughly enjoyed her time in France.

She said: “The trip was a lot of fun but also really educational without us even realising. I learnt so much over the four days about French life and culture. It was fantastic.”

Fellow Year 11 student, Gemma Fairclough said: “I got to practise my French and we did some really interesting things. I think Disneyland was one of my favourite parts, Space Mountain was great. I’d definitely do another trip again.”
