ADVENTURE and challenge was on the agenda this week for a group of students.

Students from Carr Hill High School & Sixth Form Centre visited the High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre in North Yorkshire to test their limits and take part in fun activities on a GCSE Physical Education trip.

The group of Year 10 students took part in a variety of activities including: orienteering, rock climbing, mountain biking and abseiling over five days.

Splitting into four different groups, the students were able to experience all different challenges throughout the week.

Along with the challenging activities, students were filmed for a BBC Yorkshire News broadcast as part of a feature on the importance of Outdoor Education Centres for young people.

P.E teacher Mr Doughty said: “The trip to Skipton provided GCSE PE pupils with an extra opportunity to improve their practical grades, learn essential life skills and the chance to bond with their GCSE PE cohort.

“It was an extremely successful week, where both the students and the teachers involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”

Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the week enabled them to improve their grades but also improve a variety of other life skills, such as their communication and organisation.

Student, Jess Swannack said: “We all really enjoyed ourselves. I particularly enjoyed the rock climbing. We first learnt how to climb on the indoor climbing wall and then we got to out onto the cragg which was great fun. ”

The High Adventure residential week is organised annually at Carr Hill High School and has positive effects on the students and their grades, allowing them to experience sports that they might not usually get the opportunity to.
