STUDENTS encountered physical challenges and learnt about the benefits of higher education on a weekend residential.

Two groups of Year 11 students from Carr Hill High School & Sixth Form Centre in Kirkham spent three days at Hothersall Lodge in Longridge.

On the trip, students’ from the Royal Avenue School took part in study skills sessions and were given presentations by three top UK Universities: Cambridge, Lancaster, Liverpool to highlight the importance of meeting higher education aspirations.

The idea behind the activity weekend is to encourage students to achieve top grades at GCSE and then through the support and help of Carr Hill, give all the aspiration of attending a top university in the UK.

One presentation devoted time on how each student should prepare for their GCSE’s. Lots of innovative ideas were presented on how to remain focused, how to improve memory skills and how to achieve A/A* grades.

Assistant Headteacher, Mr Paul Wallace said: “The Hothersall Lodge weekends are a great idea as they allow both Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre and the top universities the opportunity to show students just what can be achieved.

“We firmly believe that by working together students can gain top A Level grades at Carr Hill and then take the next step at a Russell Group or Plate Glass University.”

Along with university presentations, students got involved with team building activities including canoeing, rock climbing and abseiling.

The weekend was a success for all students involved and the knowledge gained throughout the residential can only benefit them in the future.
