FRIENDLY, helpful and extremely happy were words used to describe students and staff at Open Evening this week.

Staff and students prepared classrooms with exciting experiments and intriguing activities so that Year 5 & 6 students could get a taste of what it’s like to learn at Carr Hill.

Open Evening is the chance for people in the community to learn about Carr Hill.  This year, the school’s growing reputation for excellence attracted families from as far afield as Great Eccleston, Catforth, Lytham, Ashton, Blackpool and Lancaster.

Feedback from visitors was unanimous: enthusiastic and caring staff; great facilities and extra-curricular activities; stimulating teaching leading to impressive exam results; proud, happy and smartly dressed students who really enjoy coming to this school.

Visitors were particularly impressed with our recently updated facilities including: The Hub, the Dance Studio, the Fitness Suite and the Food Technology classroom.

Mrs McKeon, Assistant Head, was delighted by the turn out on a particularly wet Open Evening and was pleased to welcome so many familiar faces.

She said: “As so many of our future students have already spent the best part of a day with us in Year 5, they bounced in with confidence to Open Evening, with many asking when their next visit would be!

“Year 6 classes will come for a day in the Spring Term where they will have some lessons, the opportunity to explore the school further and lunch. By the time all of our new intake come on Experience Day they are quite familiar with the school and the staff and this eases the move to High School. It has been noticeable, this year in particular, just how smooth transition has been for Year 7.”

The deadline for applying for a place at Carr Hill in Year 7 for September 2014 is 31st October 2013. Applications can be made online at www.lancashire.gov.uk/e-admissions
