95 per cent of students achieved 5 A* – C grades an increase of 5 per cent on last year and an increase of 35 per cent in the last five years for Carr Hill. The school is also celebrating the fact that two thirds of students gained at least 1 A*/A grades, with impressive results in Maths and English.

These fantastic results see students at Carr Hill achieving some of the best grades despite the ‘significant turbulence’ used to describe this year’s GCSE results. Nationally many schools have seen a dip in results; this is not the case at Carr Hill High School & Sixth Form Centre.

In addition a number of subject areas across the school have achieved 100 per cent A* – C grades.

Headteacher Patrick Earnshaw is delighted.

He said: “A staggering 95% of Carr Hill students achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above today, our best ever results, and 68% of those included Maths and English. Maths and English GCSE results were exceptionally strong.

“Coming after our outstanding A Level results last week, which bucked the national downward trend by actually going up significantly, I’m delighted with how well our GCSE and A Level students have done this year. Congratulations to all our students, and well done to our dedicated and talented staff.”

A number of students were celebrating their fantastic results this morning. Matt Wood was ecstatic when he opened his results to 8A* and 5A grades. Matt is joining Carr Hill Sixth Form in September to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths.

He said: “I am thrilled with my results and can’t wait to get stuck into my A Levels at sixth form.”

Amongst the high achievers were Matt McCormick, Amy Wisniewski, Kate Edmondson, Erin Hall, Anthony Collinson, Rebecca Collett and Sophie Laycock.

Sophie Laycock was delighted with her A*, A and B grades after a sleepless night. Sophie is going on to study Biologoy, Sociology, Maths and English Literature at Carr Hill Sixth Form.

She said: “I’ve been worrying about my results for so long, I barely slept last night and I got up at six this morning. It is a relief to have them and I am completely over the moon”.
