AN information evening was held to launch the sporting elite trip to South Africa.

Students who are members of or are interested in being a member of one of the elite sports academies at Carr Hill were invited to attend the evening on Tuesday 15th January to promote the planned 2014 trip to Cape Town.

The trip, being organised by Gullivers Sports Travel, will be for 10 nights in July 2014. A presentation was given by a tour organiser to give students and parents all the information they need about the tour.

While in South Africa the sports teams will take part in training sessions and compete with other local school teams playing Netball, Football and Rugby.

Staying in Cape Town the group will take part in many activities including: a visit up Table Mountain, a traditional South African braai, a visit to Robben Island to learn about Nelson Mandela’s imprisonment, a visit to a local township and an overnight safari.

PE teacher, Mr Doughty said: “The tour to South Africa is something the academy students shouldn’t miss out on.

“Being able to learn about the vibrant and diverse culture of South Africa while playing sports at local schools will be a brilliant experience, a once in a lifetime trip.”
