Successful professionals from creative industries visited Carr Hill High School to share their career journeys- offering insight in to the world of creative work and shining a light on routes into, and opportunities within, the sector.

Rich Dyer,  Director of Skiddle Ltd (a company which sell tickets for gigs, clubs and festivals), Olivia Downing, Copywriter at TBWA\MCR (global advertising agency), and Jess Evans, Freelance Features Writer, formed the panel and were joined by presenter and fellow creative Sarah Story, a radio presenter for Capital FM.

The sessions, for Year 8, 9 and 10, were designed to highlight the routes in to creative industries and to allow students to consider careers they may not have previously. Students listened to members of the panel talk about their studies, routes in to industry, the best things about their jobs and watched short promotional videos showcasing their work. Students were also given the opportunity to ask a variety of questions at the end of the sessions.

Personal Development Leader Mr Beale said: “I would like to thank Sarah, Rich, Olivia, Jess and the BBC Bitesize crew for giving up their time and delivering these sessions to our students. It has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn more about the creative industry, hear inspiring individual stories and discover more about the many roles on offer.”

Students said:

“It’s helped me to learn about different jobs I didn’t know existed.”

“It’s made me believe I can achieve anything”

“It’s showed me how to get in to different careers”

“It helped me believe that you don’t have to be good at everything- just try as hard as you can.”
