Carr Hill High School is working with Lancashire Mind on the Whole School Approach, an exciting new way of looking after the mental health of everyone involved in school life. After a successful pilot year, the project is now in its Wave one, and Carr Hill is just one of 16 schools across England and Wales given the opportunity to take part.

The project starts by asking everyone in the school community to take part in the confidential whole school mental health survey. It is designed to help find out how the school workforce, pupils, and parents/carers feel about mental health, and about what is already in place.

In November, the results will be shared, and a representative group of teachers, pupils, and parents will be supported by Lancashire Mind to draw up an action plan. As part of the school’s action plan Lancashire Mind might agree to provide mental health information, tailored assemblies, specialist training and workshops. Whatever it includes, Lancashire Mind will show the school how to build on the things that are already working and  improve anything that might not be working as well.

Carr Hill High School and Lancashire Mind are looking for parents/carers to take part in the Action Planning Group, which will run between 6-7pm on Tuesday 19th November. This session will provide an opportunity to look at the survey results and have input on how Lancashire Mind will work across the school over the course of the project.

Assistant Headteacher Mr Johnstone said: “Input from our parents and carers is as vital to the success of this initiative as student and staff contributions. We want to work with all three groups to build up a picture of wellbeing across our school and look at how we can build on it for the good of the whole school community. We’ve been given a fantastic opportunity to be amongst the first schools in the country to work on the Whole School Approach and I hope we can create something of huge value to our students, staff, parents and carers.”
