Year 11 student James recently took part in his first swimming gala representing his sea cadets unit and won all three of the races he was entered in to.

James, who is a keen swimmer and trains with Preston swimming club, competed in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and the 100m individual medley which involved 25m of each stroke. James competed against other sea cadets from the district and was selected to represent his unit.

James said: “It felt nice to do so well the first time I represented my sea cadet unit. I’m hoping that following on from this I can be selected for future galas.”

In addition to his swimming gala success, James also recently came second in his age group at the Fleetwood triathlon. James, who takes part in two triathlons each year, swam 400m, cycled 10k and ran 10k. James said: “ I enjoy the different bits of the triathlon and the challenges the different stages give you.”

Head of Year 11 Mrs Beesley said: “Congratulations to James on his recent achievements. James is incredibly hardworking in school and has achieved a lot, including becoming Head Boy, so it’s great to see him doing so well outside of school too. Well done, James.”
