Over 200 Year 6 students spent the day at Carr Hill High School as the final part of the transition process from primary school to secondary school.

The experience day is the last in a series of visits for most of the Year 6 students designed to help them feel more comfortable and confident about starting secondary school.

The experience day included mentor time, so students could get to know their mentor group and mentor a little better, a number of taster lessons in a range of subjects, an assembly and lunch in the school canteen. Students also had the chance to design a rugby kit for their rugby playing new Head of Year Mr Penney. At the end of the day students were presented with a certificate of attendance and a postcard photo of their mentor group.

Year 6 Georgia said: “My favourite part of the day has been meeting new friends and art has been my favourite lesson. I feel more confident after today because I know the school better.”

Year 6 Charlie said: “I was a bit nervous at the start of the day but I feel used to the school now. The teachers have been really nice too.”

Head of Year 7 Mr Penney said: “We hope the Year 6 students enjoyed their experience day. We’ve had great feedback and it seems that students are really looking forward to joining us after the summer holidays. Of course it is normal to feel some nerves about the change but I would like to reassure Year 6 students that staff and current students are all here to help with the settling in process and we look forward to welcoming you in September.”
