Members of Carr Hill High School’s school council, which is made up of representatives from across all year groups and the newly appointed prefects, recently met with headteacher Mr Waller to discuss the ideas they would like to see rolled out to improve the school community for all.

Some of the priorities for the students, who also gained feedback from their peers prior to the meeting, included improving recycling facilities at school, encouraging all students to take more care in looking after the school, doing more as a school community to raise funds for charities, through events and other fundraisers, and inviting former students back in to school to speak about their career journeys.

Headteacher Mr Waller said: “I’m impressed with the ideas put forward by the school council. These students are clearly keen to improve not only the school environment but have also considered what we can do as a school community to help others in a wider sense whether that be via charity events or environmental initiatives. We are currently working with staff in school and with external organisations to look at the ways we can implement the suggestions put forward. I would like to thank each member of the school council for their valued contributions and ongoing commitment to making a positive difference at Carr Hill High School.

Head Girl Emma will work alongside some of her fellow prefects and staff to lead the charity work the school will do. Emma said: "I think it will be good for all Carr Hill students to get involved in more charity events as it's important to help others."

School Council member and Year 9 student Maty said: "One of the ideas I'm most looking forward to making happen is former students coming in to speak to us. They could be a doctor, a lawyer or a plumber, the most important thing is it's someone who is successful and someone who enjoys their job that students can be inspired by."
