Carr Hill’s top ten performing students have taken home 37 Grade 9’s collectively following the replacement of the old A*-G grading system. The new system has been designed to make it more challenging to get the very top grades. A grade 9 is considered to be harder to achieve than an A* and gaining straight Grade 9’s has been said to be almost impossible. Despite this, the school’s top performing student  achieved eight Grade 9’s and two Grade 8’s.

The school’s highest performers, Jess, Jess, Abbie, Oliver, Lydia, Harriett, Ali, Naomi, Andrew and Jack, also gained 27 Grade 8’s and 24 Grade 7’s between them which are the equivalent of A* and A grades.

Lydia said: “I’m so happy with my results. I didn’t know what to expect this morning and I was worried about the unknown. History is one of my favourite subjects but the exam was difficult so when I realised I got a Grade 9 it felt amazing.”

Jack said: “I’m proud of my results especially English as I got a Grade 9 for English Language and a Grade 8 for English Literature. I sat mock exams earlier in the year and they showed that I needed to work a bit harder so I focused on improving and it’s paid off.”

Harriet said: “I have never found Maths an easy subject so opening my results and seeing a Grade 7 makes me so happy. I was feeling nervous this morning and now I just feel happy.”

Headteacher Mr Waller said: “A Grade 9 is difficult to achieve as they are only awarded to the very top performing students across the country so Jess, Jess, Abbie, Oliver, Lydia, Harriett, Ali, Naomi, Andrew and Jack should all be incredibly proud of themselves to have gained these grades as well as their Grade 8’s, Grade 7’s and Grade 6’s.

"This year’s Year 11 have performed well and I would like to congratulate everyone on their results.”
