Year 7, 8 and 9 students have been studying Russia as part of their syllabus recently, so when Geography Teacher Mrs McMurtrie saw an article on the BBC about a fifteen year old boy growing up in Eastern Russia she challenged them to read it and respond to it in whichever way they wanted.
Some wrote poems, some did diary entries and one student even designed and made a physical representation of what the article meant to them using a blue plastic box to represent the ice blocks used instead of running water.
Mrs McMurtrie said, “This was an optional homework and I was really impressed at how many students took up the challenge and even more impressed at the depth of thought which had gone into their creations”.
