Carr Hill staff and volunteers  from Nat West worked together to deliver the Money Management and Financial Capability Day as part of the school’s PSHE curriculum offer.

Pupils took part in a two hour workshop entitled Money Sense, which is a free financial education programme that aims to help 5-18 year olds towards a better financial future. The workshop uses key money moments such as starting to save pocket money, opening a bank account or getting a first mobile phone to make learning relatable. The programme has been created with educational experts and is a free learning resource provided by RBS plc.

Following the workshop Carr Hill staff led classroom based sessions covering topics such as ‘Where does money come from?’ and  ‘Gambling- What’s your attitude?’.  Students finished the day by watching a BBC documentary about Payday Loans entitled ‘Young, British and Broke’, before they were presented with certificates for their PSHE folders.

Personal Development Leader, Mr Beale, said: “It is essential that we educate young people about the importance of managing their money. If we can get our students thinking about how to do this effectively at a young age they are less likely to face financial issues in later life. I hope that our students will take on board what they have seen and heard today and use the advice given wisely.

“I would like to thank our visitors from Nat West, and Carr Hill staff, for helping to deliver what I’m sure our students found to be an informative day.”
