Following on from the success of last year, the Family Cooking Club, which helps students and parents/carers to create a range of simple, quick and nutritious meals, has returned.

The club is part of the school's Pupil Premium offer and after a successful trial last year school staff decided to run the initiative again to help more students and their families. The club took place every Monday for four weeks and each week a different meal was prepared and cooked. Dishes included; sausage casserole and mash, tomato and cheese pasta bake, chicken curry with rice and spaghetti bolognese.

A student said: “I cook at home and mostly make curries but I might try some of the other recipes we’ve cooked at school now. I’ve enjoyed making spaghetti bolognese with my mum this afternoon and we’ll be having it for tea with the rest of the family later.”

Mrs Somers, Pupil Premium Mentor said: “Based on the positive feedback we received last year we decided to run the club again. I’m delighted to say that once again the sessions were a success and of great use to all those involved. Thank you to everyone who took part. We hope you’ll be recreating the meals at home soon.”

The Pupil Premium is the name of the fund given directly to schools to support students who are in receipt of Free School Meals , or who have been registered within the last six years. The children of Armed  Forces families and young people who are in care are also eligible for Pupil Premium funding. These funds are in addition to the main school budget and are allocated on the basis of the number of students who qualify for the Pupil Premium.
