Two students from Carr Hill High School will form part of a team of five who will compete at the British Gymnastic Championships this July.

Year 8 Phoebe and Year 9 Alice impressed two panels, made up of 20 judges, with their two and a half minute club routine. The students represented their club, Ribby Hall Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, as a team alongside three other girls.  21 teams took part in the regional competition with the top seven qualifying for the British Gymnastic Championships. Phoebe, Alice and their teammates finished in an impressive fifth place.

The students, who have been practising their routine since the start of the new year, will perform the same routine  in July along with a second routine which they will begin working on shortly. The championships are held in Liverpool and qualifying teams from across the UK will compete for the title.

Year 9 Alice said: “I’m happy we’ve qualified again. We qualified last year and finished in fourth place at the British Gymnastic Championships, so we hoped we would make it again this year but you can never expect to get through.”

Phoebe said: “Learning a new routine is always challenging at the beginning but the more you go through it the more confident you get. We are all looking forward to working on the new routine and competing at the championships in July.”

Headteacher Mr Waller said: "Well done to Phoebe and Alice on this fantastic achievement. On behalf of the school community, I wish them good luck for the championships in July. We all look forward to hearing how they get on."
