A Year 11 student has just qualified to teach the keyboard in group or one to one tuition.

Rachel, who has been playing the keyboard since she was seven years old, worked her way through grades one to eight before being given the opportunity to take her teaching diploma. It took Rachel 10 weeks to complete her qualification which involved teaching a beginner student, providing a portfolio and sitting a practical and theory exam.

Although Rachel has no plans to become a full time teacher, she says she will continue to tutor in her spare time. Rachel said: "I plan to offer tutoring whilst I am at college and university instead of getting a job in a shop or a bar. Tutoring will enable me to earn some extra money whilst doing something I enjoy."

Headteacher Mr Waller said: "This is a great achievement and an example of how something that starts as a hobby can turn into much more. I commend Rachel for her hardwork and dedication."
