The students who are going to South Africa as volunteers have raised an impressive £500 for the group fundraising pot shared by all Opt In fundraising students.

The pupils organised a fashion show which included a raffle, refreshments and games. The show was attended by 100 people who gave generously at the event. As well as helping to organise the event students were also on hand throughout the night welcoming guests as they arrive, helping to serve refreshments and showing guests to the changing rooms.

The fashion show event was the first in a series of events being organised. Over the course of the next few months members of each academy will also host events with the same aim of raising funds which will be shared amongst the Opt In students helping to reduce the cost of the trip.

PE teacher and Sports Partnership & Academies Officer Mr Doughty said: “£500 is a great start to our fundraising pot. The money raised over the course of the next few months will certainly make a difference to the cost of trip for our students. The pupils are very much involved in the events and are expected to take responsibility for fundraising within their group whilst also supporting events the other groups have organised. I would like to thank all the students involved in the fashion show as well as their family and friends who came along to support us.”

The next event is a Talent Show called Carr Hill’s Got Talent. This fundraiser will take place in January 2017 and is being organised by the Dance Academy Opt In students. More details will be advertised in the new year.
