Year 10 pupils Bradley and Kirsty were selected to represent Lancashire in the nationwide competition this summer alongside the country’s most promising young athletes.

Bradley, who is a 100 meter sprinter, qualified for the event with a time of under 11.6 seconds. Over 36 Under 15’s competed from across the country with Bradley finishing 5th in his heat. Bradley represents Carr Hill High School at athletics events and also trains with Blackpool Wyre & Fylde Athletics Club. He said: “Competing at the English Schools track and Field Championships was a good experience for me. The season is finished now but I’m looking forward to it starting again next year. I’m going to be training hard to try to qualify for Tokyo 2020.”

Kirsty, who competes in the Pole Vault,  came in 7th place at the event competing against over 20 girls in her age category. Although Kirsty has been training for a long time, it has been just three years since her coach suggested she tried the Pole Vault and Kirsty quickly discovered she was a natural. Kirsty said of the English Schools track and Field Championships: “It was scary competing in such a big stadium but it has given me more confidence in myself and made me want to continue to improve.”

Head teacher Mr Waller said: “I would like to congratulate Bradley and Kirsty on their achievements over the summer break. They are great role models for other students and an example of what can be achieved with dedication and hard work. Well done to you both.”
