Year 12 pupils were taken to visit the UCAS convention at Edge Hill University where they had the opportunity to speak to representatives from many leading universities and the chance to explore the university campus and get a feel for university life in general.

The convention allowed Carr Hill students to speak to lots of universities in a short space of time, giving them a better idea of what’s out there without having to tour the country visiting each university individually. Pupils could also find out more information from someone who knows all about their institution and what it is like to study and live there. It’s was also an opportunity to pick up prospectuses, request further information and leave details to attend open days later in the year.

Post 16 Care Leader Miss Stott said: “The UCAS convention is a great place to start university research as you can meet members of staff from each institution, ask any questions you have and gain a better understanding of what it is you are looking for in a university while also finding out things you may never have even thought of.”

Year 12 Lauren attended the event and said: "UCAS planned a very successful day at Edge Hill University where individuals were able to go and learn about different universities to help them find out more about the courses they would like to do in the future. Each university had a prospectus with them and they were handed out as well as open day times for the universities so that the individuals had the opportunity to visit them in the future. I found the day really helpful as before I was very unsure about which universities I liked the sound of. However, I now know my top three choices and I have applied for a residential event at edge hill.”

Year 12 Jack said: “It was an amazing experience. We were able to see a range of different universities and it really opened my eyes to the wide variety of opportunities out there. The event gave me an insight into university life.”
