On Thursday 23rd June 2016, Carr Hill High School hosted the Fylde Coast Athletics Championships at Blackpool Sports Centre, Stanley Park. The event was a male athletes only competition , with another event scheduled in the coming weeks for female athletes.

The event had both field and track competitions. The field events that took place on the day included javelin, shot-put, discus, high jump, long jump and ended with triple jump. Meanwhile, on the track there were hurdles, 1500m, 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m and relay races.

One of the standout performances of the day came from Year 9, Ethan, who achieved 1st place in the 300m and set a new record! Furthermore, Ethan managed to achieve another new record in the Year 9 Long Jump, in which he achieved 1st place again. The Year 9’s didn’t stop there as the Carr Hill team's relay time broke yet another record!

Other standout performances included Year 8’s, Kaelin and Lawrence who both won their races in 100m and 800m. Meanwhile, Year 10 Luke achieved 1st place in the 300m, also setting a new record.

It was a lovely day and there was no rain in sight which meant that the athletes had a great day to represent the school. In the Year 7 category, Carr Hill came fourth out of a possible 13, with a total of 169 points. Meanwhile, in the Year 8 category Carr Hill came sixth out of 13, with 218 points.  Carr Hill did the best in the Year 9 category,  gaining an impressive first place out of 13, with a total of 234 points! . In the Year 10 category, Carr Hill gained third place out of seven with a total of 241 points.

The most important position was the overall table, in which all the schools were ranked against each other. Carr Hill came in third place out of the 13 schools who participated and had gained a total of 862 points!

Thank you to all of the Carr Hill Sixth Form students who volunteered at the event- Year 12’s, Jess, Alice, Emily Matthew, Jack, Dominic, Elise and Morgan. A massive thank you also goes out to Mr Penney, Mr Doughty and Mr Grady who helped with the running of the event!

Year 12 Student Ambassador, Emily said: “It was fun to interact and get to know other schools. It was something different which was enjoyable. It was such a privilege that Carr Hill wanted me to do such an important role and I can’t wait to help out at events in the future.”
