Geography staff and students at Carr Hill High School have taken part in the Geo bake off- an annual competition run by the Geological Association.

Students were invited to bake a creative design in one of eight categories including the Jurassic World Monosaur, The Martian and Lagoonal cupcakes. All students and staff were welcome to enter the competition for free. The cakes were displayed during lunchtime and those who prefer to taste cakes were able to pay a 50p donation to try as many as they wanted.

Geography teachers Mrs McMurtrie and Mrs Craig organised the bake off. Mrs McMurtrie said: Mrs Craig and myself were overwhelmed by the number of students entering the competition and amazed by the standard of cakes produced. It was great to see the Geography department so busy during lunchtime!”

The winner of the competition was Year 10 Kate. Kate baked a cake showing the structure of the Earth complete with a key and accurate labels. Special mentions also go Year 7 students Luke (who won the volcano category) and Zuzanna (who won the Jurrasic World category).

Photographs of all of the cakes entered are on the Geography Twitter and Instagram pages @CarrHillGeog
