Eight Year 10 students have spent the day facing challenges set at the Maths Feast Competition organised by the Further Mathematics Support Programme.

The students were split into two teams and competed in 5 different rounds of challenges.  There was a true or false round, a comprehension round where they had 20 minutes to read a sheet about complex numbers and then answer some questions, an investigation using pentominoes, a relay round where the alternate pair had to rely on the previous pairs answers and four rounds at various points of countdown. Both teams had special mentions for teamwork and also won the final relay round.

Maths teacher Mrs Potts said: “The students have used some of their mathematical knowledge and they were also seeing what maths looks like at a higher level. It is a great way for them to work as teams and put their mathematical skills to good use!”
