This week Year 11 students Lauren, Alex and Sarah, who form the Carr Hill High School Public Speaking Team, won the Best Public Speaking Team in the Business and Professional Women’s regional competition. The team triumphed over a number of schools from across the region. On top of the overall victory, Lauren was also awarded Best Chairperson.

This result is even more impressive as this was the Year 11 pupils’ first performance having replaced last year’s Year 13 team who have now left Carr Hill High School.

Following this success the students also won best public speaking team in the local Rotary Club competition yesterday evening. Sarah also won best speaker.

English teacher Ms Fry said: “We are all delighted with these results particularly as these were the team’s first professional competitions. Our students also competed against a lot of Post 16 speakers but held their own and showed confidence throughout. We would also like to thank Year 13 student Ayse who is coaching the students following her successes as speaker last year.”
