Year 12 student, Jack, scored a wonderful right footed shot from outside the box which hit the inside of the post and went in! This gave Carr Hill a great start and the success carried on as Year 11, Matthew, scored his first goal, giving Carr Hill two goals in total. Although, Ormskirk managed to score two goals themselves, neither team managed to score another goal. Therefore, making their first match of the season a draw at 2-2, which was a great start! Mr Grady gave Man of the Match to Year 13 Jordan.

Coach of the Football Academy, Mr Grady, said: “The new Year 11’s who played in their first game did really well! We could have won the game but the Ormskirk goalkeeper made some terrific saves!”

However, in their second game of the season, which was on Wednesday 30th September 2015, Carr Hill went against Oldham College and this time it brought the academy greater success. Following a draw in their previous match, Carr Hill had to win this.

Carr Hill was given a challenge with tough windy conditions and older and stronger opponents to go up against. However, Carr Hill was able to overcome the problem at hand. Year 12 Matthew score his first goal of the season which he headed into the goal. Furthermore, Year 13, Jordan scored two impressive goals one an excellent strike from a free kick 30 yards from the goal. It was looking like a draw at 1-1 midway through the second half. Just like the school’s mission statement mentions, Carr Hill was able to show great resilience by demonstrating great character and tactical awareness enabling them to finish the winners of the game. The end score was 3-1 to Carr Hill! Well done to Carr Hill and the Man of the Match Luke, who made a sensational debut!

Year 12 student and goal scorer, Matthew said: “The Football Academy had to endure a massive turn around at the start of this season with our previous Year 13 players leaving. However, we’ve taken the new players in with open arms and they should be proud of themselves so far.

“Luke deserved Man of the Match for his great performance on his debut for the team. He delivered several important tackles, which benefited the team. Year 13 Jordan, was instrumental in the game and Year 11 goalkeeper Oliver rescued the team at 1-1 by making a vital save!”

The Football Academy’s third match of the season, which was on Wednesday 7th October 2015, saw them go against Nelson and Colne College. This wasn’t the best match for the academy as it saw the academy face their first loss of the season. We know that the academy is capable of great things and we know that they will be able to pick themselves back up in their next match.

Meanwhile, the Rugby Academy’s first match of the season was a roaring success. Their first game of the season was on Wednesday 23rd September 2015 against Cardinal Newman College. Carr Hill won 21-0. The tries were scored by Year 13’s Connor, Max and Aidan. Furthermore, Year 13 Jobe delivered three smashing conversions which gave the team a victory!

Rugby Academy Coach, Mr Penney, said: “The new players were able to work with the older members of the academy very well. The debuts made by the Year 11 students were great, especially by Adam P and Adam M.”

The second game of the season was on Wednesday 7th October 2015 against Bolton School. After a smashing start to the season, the Rugby Academy managed to carry this on with a tight game. Although it was a challenging game, Jobe managed to score a try and delivered a superb conversion. However, Bolton School did manage to score a try making the score 7-5 to Carr Hill! The Rugby Academy is on a winning streak. Well done to all the players and well done to Year 13 Jacob for gaining Man of the Match for this game!

Well done to both the Football and Rugby Academies for a superb start to the season!
