Representatives from a number of universities and companies offering apprenticeships were also present to give students guidance as to what subjects they will need to study to be accepted on to degree courses and apprenticeships in a few years’ time.  

Many current Sixth Form students volunteered their time to talk about the academic and social sides of studying at Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre. Pupils studying Drama discussed the opportunity to mentor lower school students at an after school Drama Club. whilst some students who left Carr Hill Sixth Form in the summer, to go to university, came back to speak about the benefits of choosing Carr Hill as a Post 16 option.

Year 11 Millie attended the event with her friend Grace. Both students are planning to join the Sixth Form in September 2016. Millie said: “You know the teachers and they know you which I think is important. There is also a wide range of courses on offer at AS and A-Level.”

Grace added: “It (the event) has been good and I’ve got a lot of useful information.”

Year 12 student Alice, who is a member of one of the Sporting Elite Academies, volunteered to speak to prospectus students at the event about the academies. She said: “Being a member of a Sporting Elite Academy is a big part of school and Sixth Form life. You get to meet lots of people and do lots of things like going on international sports’ tours.”

University student Chloe, who completed her A-Levels at Carr Hill Sixth Form in summer 2015, also attended the event and spoke to prospective students interested in studying History and Government and Politics. Chloe said: “I think being at the Sixth Form is like being a part of a family or community. You don’t have to settle in all over again somewhere new and you know how much the teachers will help you. I really miss it.”
