For English there will be two qualifications: GCSE English Language (AQA) and GCSE English Literature (AQA). All pupils at Carr Hill High School will follow a joint programme of study and the vast majority will be entered for both qualifications at the end of two years. The qualifications are exam only- no coursework or controlled assessments.

Details of the changes to the English qualifications were explained to guests in more detail by the Director of Learning for the Creativity Cluster, Mrs McDonough.

Mrs Taylor, who is the Director of Learning for the Logic Cluster, then described the alterations to the Maths qualification. Mrs Taylor explained many of the changes stating that the volume of subject content had increased, the assessments had greater emphasis on problem solving and mathematical reasoning, with more marks now being allocated to these higher-order skills, and that the total time for the examinations is increasing, from 3 ½ hours to 4 ½ hours.

In addition to course changes Carr Hill High School Assistant Headteacher ,Ms Hilton-Peet, also explained the new GCSE grades. The grades will range from 1-9, with 9 being the highest. The first new exam grades will be awarded in Summer 2017.  All other current GCSEs will remain at A*-G. Guests were also given details about how progress will be tracked and how reports will be delivered.
