Year 7 student and talented gymnast Alice is one of only 16 girls in her age category from across the UK to have qualified for the British Gymnastics Championships.

Alice gained her place at the British Gymnastics Championships after attending the British Qualification Testing in the West Midlands last month. The testing event was for Rhythmic Gymnastics which involves using one or two pieces of apparatus, such as clubs, hoops or ribbon when performing a routine.

Alice found the testing, which measured flexibility, conditioning and ballet, challenging but fun. She said: “You are competing against girls who are the best at their club so the standard is high.”

The young gymnast has been training with Ribby Hall Rythmic Gymnatics Club since she was seven years old and is no stranger to competitions having competed at a regional and national level on a number of occasions. Alice has previously qualified for the National Grade Finals and trains for nine hours each week to ensure she is always improving.

With just a few months before the British Gymnastics Championships Alice plans to work hard on her ball, rope and clubs routines, all of which she will perform at the competition.

Alice, who hopes to qualify for the Olympics one day, said: “I’m excited about the British Gymnastics Championship. If I do well it will mean that I can compete at an even higher level.”

Alice’s College Leader Mr Johnstone said: “I was delighted to find out that Alice will be competing at the British Gymnastics Championships. It is always a pleasure to hear about our students achievements both in and outside of school. Everyone at Carr Hill is supporting Alice and we wish her luck for the Championships later this year.”
