Report by Sporting Elite Media Officer Jack.

It’s a new year and that means new challenges for Mrs Carroll and her Academy but they are ready to tackle them.

This year in training Academy members are focusing on technical aspects of the game including patterns of play for instance, centre, sideline and backline passes. The students are currently finding the training sessions fun and varied. Sessions consist of a warm up and skills session followed by a match.

In February the squad will be aiming to improve their cardiovascular fitness and agility. Coach, Mrs Carroll said: “This year’s most consistent player is team captain, Zoe. The players who have made the most progress this academic year are Helen and Darcy.

“We’ve had a good run since September but sustained some player injuries leading up to Christmas. We have struggled in the last few games but with everyone back to full fitness now we are looking forward to the next few games.”

Year 11 student, and academy member, Elise said: “I think Amy and Darcy have improved the most this year as both of them have been pushed into the big league and have been playing very well.”

In addition to the current season Mrs Carroll and the academy members have also been focusing on recruiting for the next academic year. Just like the coaches for the other academies Mrs Carroll is going to have a hard job deciding which students will make the Academy and Development squad.

Year 10 student Libby, who auditioned to get into the Netball Academy, said: “I’ve played in the school netball team since Year 7. I want to carry on throughout the rest of my time at Carr Hill and represent the school. I’m really nervous to find out the results as it means a lot to me.”

Fellow hopeful Eleanor said: “The girls who auditioned were amazing and it was hard to compete against them. I’m nervous about the outcome. It would be great to get in as I want to play for my school at a more competitive level.”
