It’s an annual event that brings the school together and promotes healthy competition amongst the colleges and this year was no exception.

The school field was packed with students, many holding banners in support of their college, as the 2014 kicked off.

The morning was dedicated to field events with students competing in the high jump, javelin and shot-put to name a few. Each event was represented with a member of each of the six colleges.

After a busy morning the track events soon got under way. Students went up against each other competing in 100 metre, 200 metre, 400 metre and 800 metre races. This was followed closely by the eagerly anticipated college relay races. Each college must work together to try to win the crown of the sports day champions, a title previously held by Minerva college.

The final event of the day is the tug of war in which eight boys from each college go up against each other. At the end of a challenging battle Juno was crowned the champions.

But it wasn’t all about the track and field as the students also had the opportunity to take each other on in an assault course and for those that were feeling a bit peckish after all that exercise their were Krispy Kreme Doughnuts on offer.

Freddie from CE1 took part in the 200 metres. He said: “There was a great atmosphere and everyone was cheering and supporting their college all day. It was so much fun.”

Charlotte from MI8 said: “I competed in the 800 metres and loved competing with the other students and representing my college.”

PE teacher, Mr Doughty, said: “Sports Day ran extremely smoothly. All competitors involved were a credit to their college and the buzz out on the field was the best I’ve experienced in my three years at Carr Hill. Well done to all involved!”
