There was a mixture of exuberance, sadness and expectancy amongst Year 11 students as they completed their last full day at Carr Hill High School.

Whilst most will be back in September as Sixth Formers they will no longer wear their school uniform and will be studying three or four subjects as opposed to nine or 10.

In between lessons and during break and lunch times students excitedly signed each other’s shirts with messages of goodbye and good luck. Many shirts also featured words from the staff members who have taught a lot of the students since they were 11 years old.

The yard and the hallways were packed with busy chatter as students reminisced over their last five years at Carr Hill High School. For most pupils it was not a day to say goodbye to Carr Hill High School but their final day as a student in the main school before moving up to the Sixth Form.

Stacey is one of those students. She said: “I’m staying on to attend the Sixth Form because the choice of subjects on offer is perfect for me. I’m going to study Drama, Sport and Photography. I’m hoping that I can get an apprenticeship in photography once I have completed my qualifications.”

Millie, who will study Music, Drama, Photography and Media in the Sixth Form, chose to stay on as she knows and likes the teachers. Millie said: “I know that the teachers here are really good and that made me want to stay. Everyone is nice and there is a great atmosphere in school. I’m looking forward to having the summer off and then starting as a Sixth Former in September.”

Although the year 11s will no longer go to school as full time students they will still be required to attend revision classes in the subjects which they have not yet sat exams in. With the exams running until 24th June the students will now have extra time to focus on their final tests before officially celebrating the end of year 11 with the Leavers Ball in a few weeks.

Jobe will be staying on to study Biology, Geography, PE and one other subject which he is still deciding about. Jobe said: “It feels strange leaving year 11 as not everyone is coming to Sixth Form so I won’t see some of my classmates again. I’m part of the Rugby Academy so I am looking forward to continuing to be involved in that over the next two years.”

Staff and students would like to wish all year 11 students the best of luck with the next stage of their lives. To those who won’t be back, you will be missed, and to those who will, we look forward to welcoming you to the Sixth Form in September!
