15 local primary schools take part in Carr Hill’s regular sports tournaments. The tournaments are organised through the PE department and run by Carr Hill Sports Academy pupils.

There are around 10 tournaments a year which give primary schools the chance to compete against each other playing sports such as rugby, football, netball, rounders and dodge ball.

Around 120 primary school pupils take part during each tournament and it takes 25 Carr Hill students to organise, manage and referee the event.

PE Teacher, Mr Penney oversees the tournaments. He said: The Carr Hill students and I really enjoy these tournaments. They are a great opportunity to encourage younger students to play different sports; it also gives them the chance to develop key skills such as teamwork.

“We always have a great turn out and the feedback from primary schools is consistently positive, many of the schools have been taking part for years.”

Mr Shepherd is a teacher at Holy Family Catholic Primary School based in Warton.  The school regularly take part in the Carr Hill tournaments.  Mr Shepherd said: “We try to attend most of the tournaments at Carr Hill. They are always well organised and the Carr Hill students are a pleasure to deal with. Our pupils look forward to each tournament and, as there is such variety, many have the chance to try out sports they have never played before.”
