Every year, Drama Teacher Mr Nolan and a team of fabulous students put on an exceptional performance of one of Shakespeare’s plays. After years of performing successful plays including Julius Cesar, Winter’s Tale, Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear. This year he brings the sixth and final promising performance, Romeo and Juliet, one of the most well known plays created by Shakespeare.

The performance includes some of Carr Hill’s best actors and actresses! The play also has more than one actor starring within main roles, including Romeo, Juliet and Nurse. The main characters include students Matthew Miller and Conor Spann as Romeo, Susan Newton, Jodie Clark and Amy Croasdale as Juliet, Jasmine Williams as Benvolio, Katie Etheridge as Tybalt, Amber Elgee as Mercutio, Ghislaine Cross as Friar Lawrence and Hermione Bailey,  Lauren Patterson and Melissa Robinson as Nurse.

Matthew Miller, in Year 12, is playing the role of Romeo. He said: “When I was given the role as one of the Romeos’ I was surprised and pleased.  I really enjoyed being involved with the production and I loved working alongside Susan Newton, who is one of the actresses who plays Juliet. “

Hermione Bailey, in Year 10, is playing the role of Nurse. She said:  “I was really excited when I was given the one of the roles of Nurse as this is my first main part in a school production! Rehearsing was challenging at first but when we got into the swing of things it was really fun.

“What I love about Romeo and Juliet is that you get to play characters from years ago and get an insight into what it was like back then! It was fun being part of a great cast and I really loved working with all those involved in the play.”

This will be Mr Nolan’s last play. He said: “This will be my sixth and final Shakespeare production at Carr Hill. It has been my pleasure and privilege to direct performances by so many dedicated and talented actors. This year’s cast and technical crew, including Louis Irwin and Mark Davis, have been superb in carrying on this tradition. It is my fervent hope that the students passion for drama will continue to flourish at Carr Hill for years to come.”

Jack’s Review of Romeo and Juliet.

I went to see the play and I fell in love with it almost instantly. It started off with a bang! As I sat back and watched the magic come to life, I actually felt like I went back in time as the actors did a great job of becoming the characters from the famous play. You can tell that the team of fantastic actors have worked hard for months on end and it definitely came out in their performances. What also put the icing on the cake was the amazing sword fighting skills and the magical music incorporated into the play. Well done everyone!

Romeo and Juliet will be performed every evening this week from 7.30pm. Tickets are just £3 each.
