SHOUTS of ‘Bingo’ were called when a group of students held a ‘Quizingo‘ event.

Carr Hill’s Dance Academy raised over £1700 at the event where all proceeds went into the South Africa 2014 tour fund.

Hosted by chair of governors Mr Ian Marquis, the night saw over 150 people attend including students, their friends, families and staff entertained with a four round quiz and six games of bingo.  Plenty of great prizes were up for grabs; one of the most popular was a day out to Sandcastle Water Park.

The event marked the start of many that will be taking place over the next twelve months in a bid to raise a mammoth total of over £90,000 to take the four sports academies in Dance, Football, Netball and Rugby, on a once in a lifetime trip to South Africa.

So far the students have held a cake sale and the Quizingo event in school but each academy knows that it will take a lot of hard work to reach their goal.   Plans are underway for several more events including a race night and a ladies night, in the autumn term in the hope of reaching their target.

Year 11 student and Dance Captain, Amy Beatham, was thrilled with the success of Quizingo.

She said: “Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it was great to see so many students and our friends and family supporting us.

“We raised a great amount at this event so we just need to carry on working hard to organise something else that will be just as successful, if not more!”

In the hope of getting support from the community the academy has entered ‘The Gazette £25,000 Community Giveaway’ competition where they are hoping that judges will award them with a grant to help get them well on their way to the southern hemisphere.
