60 students from all years at Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre were involved on stage and behind the scenes in the musical, adapted from the famous Dickens’ novel. The story follows the life of Oliver Twist, an orphan sent to work as a child in the workhouse.

The cast rehearsed for 5 months with the help of handful of dedicated teachers from Carr Hill and after all their hard work the four nights of performances were a great success.

Two students from Year 7, Kai Carter – Royle and Sam Royle played the leading role of Oliver and thoroughly enjoyed taking part.

They said: “The rehearsals have been really good fun but the performances have been even better, we’ve really loved it.

“It can be quite nerve wrecking getting on stage but having the support of each other has been really helpful.”

Over 100 students from local primary schools, Kirkham and Wesham, Newton with Scales, Weeton Camp, Strike Lane, Medlar with Wesham C of E, Treales C of E did a fantastic job as part of the choir in the performance with different schools taking part each night.

Mrs Joanne Gould, Drama teacher, was ecstatic about the performance.

She said: “It’s been a really tough few months of rehearsals but we got there in the end. I’m really proud of all of the students that have taken part, everyone has worked so hard and it really has all been worth it.

“I’d like to commend all of the students involved for their outstanding efforts.”
