What a week the Performing Arts students had recently, when they attended the Wyre & Fylde Schools Sports Partnership Festival of Dance 'Once Upon a Dance', and then 2 days later the students wowed audiences with their production of Roald Dahl's, Matilda The Musical Jr.

The Festival of Dance was held at the Blackpool Opera House and showcased approximately 30 schools from across the Wyre and Fylde coast. The theme of the dance for our school was female oppression and Mrs Morrison writes the basis of the dance -

"In a world different to the one we know. In a place where women feel trapped and must stick together as allies to survive. The feelings of isolation and loneliness must be outweighed by unity and strength."

The Dance Academy worked together to create a moving and effective dance, with careful movements and lots of team work. Well done to all who took part.

The day after the Festival we had a full day of dress rehearsals for Matilda, with the local primary schools coming in for a special performance. They were a fantastic audience, with very spirited applause when the show finished. On the following day the cast had their first performance in front of a paying audience, and then on the Friday evening a second performance. The cast did themselves proud and the show was very well received. A number of thank you's were passed on after the final show, with flowers for the staff involved, and presents for the Tech team/stage crew.

Mr Waller spoke about how he had not known the story of Matilda before it was suggested, and how he was amazed at how hard the cast have worked. He has also said that he will be taking all the students involved in the show, to the cinema to see Matilda The Musical, a new film that has just been released. This trip has been arranged for later this week. Congratulations to all who were part of the production, it was certainly a hard show to learn and lots of work was involved.
