In mid-May we celebrated our Year 9 student, Holly, who as a very talented footballer had been selected as Vice Captain of the Lancashire Under 14s Girls County team. The season continued with Holly and the other girls progressing into the Quarter Final of the English Schools' Football Association National Cup. They played South Yorkshire, winning 4-3 after extra time. Holly's Mum, Michelle, said "it was a truly nerve wracking and tense game!" The photos below show ecstatic celebration after the final whistle blew at the end of extra time.

Full Match Report

On Saturday, Lancashire U14 girls played South Yorkshire in the English Schools’ Football Association National Cup Quarter Final, and what a tense and nail biting affair it turned out to be. After going 2-0 ahead, South Yorkshire battled back to level the game and at the end of 70 minutes the score was level at 2-2. With tired bodies on both sides another 20 minutes of extra time loomed. In the first period of extra time, South Yorkshire took the lead to make it 2-3 at the break. After a quick water break and team talk, the Lancashire girls returned to the pitch for the second period of extra time to show their coaches, families and spectators what they are made of. Luck didn’t go Lancashire’s way at times, with a goal disallowed and a penalty turned down, but the girls dug deep when it mattered most and their brilliant and overpowering performance rightly awarded them two goals to finish the match 4-3. Huge credit to Lancashire’s opposition who gave it their all and more. Lancashire now proceed through to the National Cup Semi-Finals, due to take place later this month away at either Staffordshire or Gloucestershire.

They progressed to the Semi Final match against Gloucestershire, playing away at Cirencester Town Football Club last Saturday. Lancashire played a very strong game, and Holly's Mum and Dad were pitch side holding their breath as Holly went in for tackle, perfectly timed and executed to take the ball. Photos below were taken by a photographer at the game and tell the story of the tackle. The girls put everything into the match and fought extremely hard, with a few decisions not going Lancashire's way, the final result was 3-2 to Gloucestershire.

Well done to Holly and the whole team, we are so proud of all hard work put in and how much you achieved this season.
