Carr Hill High School is very proud of the Certified School status we have achieved with National Online Safety, and they were keen to showcase our commitment to the programme in a Case Study on their website. Mr Johnstone, Assistant Head Teacher and Safeguarding Lead, answered some questions, put forward by National Online Safety, and explained more about the areas we have worked hard on and what the school has achieved.

There are a great many risks which exist online for our pupils, even more so during the past year, with Lockdown and an extended period of Remote Learning and isolation at home. As part of Safeguarding within our school, we used the Certified School Package to increase staff knowledge through CPD sessions using their online training modules, which staff can also complete around other pressing school commitments. There are also lots of user guides and helpful tips available, which we promote on our website, to help staff (and students/parents/carers) to access further information about a range of topics. Mr Johnstone is quoted in the Case Study saying, "We purchased the Certified School Package to ensure we were complying with our statutory obligation to keep young people safe online. We also need to ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to stay safe, and that adults (school staff, Governors, parents and carers) know how to best support young people in staying safe."

The article explains that looking to the future we will continue to learn more through NOS training modules, and promote any new user guides or helpful resources. "We will use further training to help with a range of online safety issues and keep everybody up to date", says Mr Johnstone, "It is a fantastic achievement, one that we are very proud of, as it reflects our commitment to keeping our young people safe online."
