Students at Carr Hill High School have decided fundraise and support homeless charity The Ashley Foundation by selecting it as the school’s charity of the year.

After much research and discussion, members of the school council, which is made up of representatives from each year group, decided on the Blackpool based organisation which helps the town’s homeless population.

The Ashley Foundation was set up in Blackpool in 1997  to help the town’s homeless population . Today, they have three hostels and eight moved on units in Blackpool and also support the homeless in Blackburn and Sunderland. Last week, Denise from the Ashley Foundation delivered assemblies to students to let them know more about the charity and how it supports homeless people and now the school is keen to get started with fundraising.

In the run up to Christmas, the school will be be collecting non-perishable food items, such as pasta, rice, tea and coffee; toiletries and practical items such as washing powder and household cleaning products to donate to the hostels and moved on units. If students and their families can spare anything, Carr Hill would be really grateful and would ask pupils to take donations to the Heads of Year offices. In addition to this, the school will also be collecting donations of loose change for the Ashley Foundation in our Carol Services which will take place each day of the last week of term.

Assistant Head teacher Miss Wareing said: “The student council spent a lot of time researching charities to find one that they most wanted to support as a school community. We are ready to start fundraising and hope that the first of our efforts, including the Christmas collection and the carol service donations, will be the start of a fantastic year of fundraising enabling us to support a very worthy charity in the vital work they do.”
