Carr Hill High School students and staff opened their doors to local Year 5 and Year 6 students and their families inviting them to find out more about the school community.

Guests were invited to visit the different facilities and take part in a range of subject specific learning activities created by teachers. Guests could also sample the school dinners and heard from the school’s Head Boy and Head Girl who both delivered speeches about their experience of Carr Hill High School as part of Headteacher Mr Waller’s welcome assemblies.

Head Boy James said: “My time at Carr Hill has given me a strong foundation, as I have developed my self-confidence, communication skills and teamwork skills by joining in and making the most of the opportunities on offer. I know that I will be able to move on at the end of this year with the skills I need to succeed, thanks to the staff and community at Carr Hill.”

Head Girl Emma said: “As Mr. Waller often says, this is our school. It was in that moment sat on the field when I felt that sense of community and togetherness so very tangibly. When I realised just how much our school and its people mean to me. It’s not just 5 years of education, and cannot be condensed into the grades achieved at the end of it. This school is the amazing people who I have met, and the discoveries we have made together. It has been a journey. Like any journey, at times it has been tough. However, ultimately it has been a joyful journey of learning and self-discovery. We have all grown extraordinarily, both as students and as people.”

Guests enjoyed many different activities such as making their own Viking ship, using stencil technique to create their own Carr Hill doves, designing their own album cover, sampling a Victorian market, magnetic 3D shape building and so much more!

Year 6 Lola attended with her family. Lola said: “I like sports so seeing the fitness room has been the best part of my visit.”

Of his visit Year 6 Cameron said: “All the different experiments in science were really fun. I’m looking forward to science lessons at secondary school now.”

Another open evening guest was Year 6 Kaynan. He said: “I like the school. The staff have been very nice and I feel comfortable here.”

Headteacher Mr Waller said, "Thank you to all those families who took the time to come and visit our school. I hope the evening gave you a true understanding of our school community and our ethos. I’d like to remind families that the closing date for applications is the 31st October and admissions can be made through the Lancashire County Council website."
